Storage Tips

These are some helpful hints to keep your belongings safe while they are being stored with us.

General Tips

Before storing, plan out how you are going to store. Put Items that you may need to get to often in last or in the front of the unit, to allow for easy access.

  • Place all belongings on 2x4 boards to guard against dampness. Any concrete floor may become cold and damp.
  • List an inventory of the belongings you have stored and keep in a safe place at home or with you.
  • Furniture with drawers can double as storage for knickknacks, silverware, or even china.
  • Tables with removable legs should be dismembered to save space.
  • Cover stuffed furniture with a dust cover to protect it.

  • When filling each of your boxes place the heavier things on the bottom and lighter things on the top for all boxes.
  • Be sure your boxes are strong; can hold up to 25-30 lbs.
  • Use boxes that are about the same size (they are easier to stack that way).
  • When stacking place the lighter boxes on top of the heavier ones.
  • Label all contents of boxes on all 4 sides and number them (for easy viewing once in storage).
  • Wardrobe boxes allow you to move clothes from the closet to the box without removing them from the hanger. There is also extra room on the bottom for shoes, small pillows or linens.

Dishes and glasses need to be wrapped individually in packing paper. (stack these on the top of all boxes)

IMPORTANT: It's against the law to store Hazardous or Combustible materials. Example: gasoline, solvents, paint, etc.... Drain all gas and oil from anything that you may want to store. Use a durable lock. The best is a disc lock, they are much harder to break or cut keeping your belongings as safe as possible!
